April is National Facial Protection Month

Spring is here and that means sports. In fact, April is facial awareness month meaning it’s time for the checklist from Powell Pediatrics.

Protection Plus

National Facial Protection Month is about protecting heads against injury. While helmets and pads are a necessity for some sports, custom-made mouth protectors don’t get the same press.

Mouth protectors have prevented more than 250,000 dental injuries every year. That means less knocked out teeth and less trips to the emergency room. Powell Pediatrics can’t stress the importance of mouth guards.

Types of Mouth Protectors

  1. Standard
  2. Boil and Bite
  3. Custom Made

While standard and boil and bite provide some protection, they are not like custom-made mouth protectors. Custom-made mouthguards are made to fit and are never left in the gym bag like uncomfortable boil and bite and standard mouth protectors.
