Eating disorders affect millions of people all over the world, but it isn’t just adults who suffer from eating disorders. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia is becoming commonplace in teens and adolescents with some kids being diagnosed as young as ten are.
Whatever the reason, kids seem to be striving to be thin with the media telling them that fat is bad and fat is out. Kids set unreasonable goals for themselves because they are tired of being bullied. However, it isn’t just bullying that causes eating disorders.
Singer Karen Carpenter succumbed to Anorexia at the age of 32 because of the pressure. The pressure to be on stage and to be thin. Never satisfied with herself she survived on laxatives to get her through. When she passed away, she weighed 82 pounds.
