The Difference Between the Cold and Flu

The cold and flu season is here, but do you know the difference between the cold and the flu?

Keeping Your Kids Healthy

The flu and the cold are different. While they are both considered viruses and both contagious, the common cold, while having milder symptoms, will last longer. The flu on the other hand will come on suddenly and will usually disappear within three to seven days. If you have a flu shot, you will experience milder symptoms for about two to four days.

Staying Healthy During Cold and Flu Season

While most of the time a common cold won’t mean a trip to Powell Pediatrics it does mean it’s time to pay close attention to your kids and the rest of the family’s habits.

Wash your hands, eat healthy, get enough sleep, and be active. If you are coughing and sneezing, do it in your elbow. Use hand sanitizer and don’t forget to use an antibacterial product on every surface in your home. If you are sick stay home.

If your kids haven’t seen your pediatrician lately, call and schedule an appointment with Powell Pediatrics today.
